Honda Fuel Cell Car: The Honda FCX Clarity Fuel Cell Car

This year, production started on the first Honda fuel cell car – the FCX Clarity. After 19 years of development and research, the fuel cell vehicle has become a reality and marks the beginning of a major development in cleaner and more efficient motoring.

FCX Clarity Emissions

The Honda FCX Clarity emits only water from its exhaust pipe and is powered fully by a hydrogen powered fuel cell. Essentially, this fuel cell combines oxygen and hydrogen to make electricity and power the car.

A discreet and small hydrogen tank stores hydrogen that the car uses to generate electricity and propel itself. To fill the car, consumers need to find a local gas station that also offers hydrogen pumps.

Around the World

While these are available across North America and Europe, they are more prevalent in Western Canada and the Southwestern United States. Because of fuel needs, the FCX Clarity is being released as a limited run to consumers in Southern California, who have access to an extensive network of hydrogen filling stations.

Because the FCX Clarity runs on electric power, the car is remarkably quiet and produces little noise or friction to interfere with the comfort of its passengers.

FCX Clarity Looks and Design

When the first Honda fuel cell car prototype was made, it looked experimental and different. With the commercial release of the FCX Clarity, Honda wanted to make a car that looked normal and also sporty. Instead of shocking consumers with a space-age, supposedly “green” design, the FCX Clarity is simply an attractive-looking sports sedan.

Price

The FCX Clarity is currently only available as a three-year lease as Honda rolls out the vehicle to test it with consumers. The current lease rate is $600 per month, but also includes Honda-approved maintenance by your local dealership.

As mentioned earlier, the three-year leases on this revolutionary Honda fuel cell car only available to a limited number of consumers in the Southern California region. Until more hydrogen fuel stations are built and Honda has perfected the Clarity model, it will only release 150 vehicles.
